Feast of Fools

Today I’ve put the jester, the puppet that symbolized the “Feast of Fools” in the workshop about the Twelve Days, under the Christmas tree. While doing that I realized that the jester, which is being sold during Christmas time as decoration, not only stems s from the Saturnalia, the feast of the Romans in which slaves become masters and masters become slaves, and the Boy-Bishop tradition in which a choir boy is bishop from December 6 to January 6, symbolizing a world upside down. The jester also signifies Christ: the foolishness of God who becomes human and his message of turning the other cheek.
