Williams Wordsworth

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills.
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the Milky Way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance
The waves beside them danced, but they
Out-did the sparkling waves in glee:
A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company;
I gazed--and gazed--but little thought
What wealth the show to me had brought:
For oft, when on my couch I lie
In vacant or in pensive mood,
They flash upon that inward eye
Which is the bliss of solitude;
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

Thanks to theshinysidein solitarywiccansthis poem. It belongs to her gift for Easter with poems and stories and recepies.

I wanted my card for today to reflect the spirit of daffodils. I have drawn my card from the Saints Tarot. I pulled the deck to work with from a bunch of deck titles and I wanted something else than Christian things, but I cannot escape Christianity, I have pulled the only Christian themed deck from the bunch.

I have pulled the card Temperance in the person of St. Benedict -master of timing and the dividing of time- as the spirit of daffodils. There are no daffodils yet in the gardens in Holland, but you can see and enjoy them in the the supermarket and in flower shops. The flower shop on our main street has put has put many flower arrangements wit daffodils outside, which gives that part of the street a bright appearance. Daffodils are the foreboding of the spring to come, their dazzling yellow color accentuates gaiety and laughter.

St. Benedict as the spirit of the daffodils, tells me that to enjoy Easter, the announcement of Spring, you need to prepare for it, build in patches of daffodils in the midst of focusing on the suffering of Christ and our own suffering. It makes it possible to experience what Easter and Spring mean when it comes.
