Madonna del "Magnificat" (detail)

Too early

Yesterday my friend and neighbor mailed if she could come for a coffee around ten today. Well yes, I mailed back. The supermarket (Alberth Heyn) is already open on seven. ‘You are going there at seven?’ she mailed back. ‘No’, answered, ‘I woke op at a quarter after seven today, thinking that it was already open, but I was a day too early.’ And I told her that I was very impressed with the early opening. Half an hour later she mailed back that the Golff, the supermarket she always gets her groceries, offered breakfeast at seven. We have an appointment there at seven, no, at five past seven, so that I can take a look inside the Albert Heyn on my way to the Golf supermarket.

But right now it is six o’clock in the morning. We have put an old alarm clock on my side of the bed, because my husband  coen_wessel preaches the Christmas Night service tonight and cannot be woken up so early in the morning. The alarm clock went off an hour to early. No idea what happened.

Holy Night

Coen is writing the last words of his sermon for tonight. I finished my spread inspired by the Christmas Carol and tinkelbelletje has put it already on my website (in Dutch). We are waiting for the Christmas night service.

The wonderful thing about tarot is that it can apply the big words of the Christian tradition on our own lives. The prayer of today contains some of these big words: “Radiant Dawn, splendor of eternal light, sun of justice: Shine on us!" My question is: How does God shine on me? Using the Victorian Romantic Tarot, I have pulled Ten of Cups.

On the card a mother holds a new born baby and shows it.It is a wonderful card to receive on Christmas night.

Gods light is around me as the light of the child of Christmas that is born tonight.

This evening this child is represented by a doll of my daughter, wrapped in a tea towel.

God shines his light differently on each of us. For each of us are different presents. Ten of Cups is called the ‘Happy Family’ card. My light and my gift is besides the child of Christmas, is my family. Gods light shines in the love I receive from them. They are a challenge sometimes, but foremost a joy.

Spreads for Christmas

On my website there are several spreads for Christmas. They are in all Dutch.

Firstly there is "Klein, Klein Jezuken", a spread based on a sweet lullaby for baby Jesus, coming from the German tradition of "kindje-wiegen"; a service in which baby Jesus is rocked in a cradle by children or choirboys.

Furthermore there is a spread inspired by A Christmas Carol by Dickens. This is spread is about the spririt of Christmas, and is quite challenging, in the sense that it asking for change to bring the spririt of Christmas in.

Lastly there is a spread called "The Angel of December". This is a spread with an imagination/visualization in which you go back to the night when Jesus was born to bring your problems to the stable and their inhabitants, Jesus, Maria Joseph, the ox and the donkey, to give you the help you need. Your can hear this imagination; it is recorded (starting with very soft music)
