Rosh Chodesh, Looking Back

The moon is almost dark. Time to look back on the moon-month, the month of Nissan that is lying behind me. The card that I had pulled on Rosh Chodesh -the festival of the new moon when this month started- was Three of Quills from the Tarot of Jane Austen. I had pulled this card with the question what I could renew during the upcoming month.

The card depicts Jane Bennett from Pride and Prejudice who is heart broken. The card is about feelings but also about the mind. Diane Wilkes writes in her essay about this card how thoughts are important here, because  the card belongs to quills. On many instances my worrying thoughts led me astray this month, to lands where nothing grows, where ruin is all over, making me more sad than necessary. This month gave me the opportunity to confront this problem.

Yom Kippur Katan

I also pulled a card today in honor of Yom Kippur Katan, the day before Rosh Chodesh (the Jewish Festival of the new moon), a day of atonement in order to turn our feet and begin the upcoming month with a clean sheet. The card that I have pulled for this is Death from the Tarot of Jane Austen.

I feel that although there was opportunity for renewal last month, I was not able to do that. I recognzed the challenges, but I could not think and act differently then earlier. That is something to atone for.
