Madonna del "Magnificat" (detail)

Rosh Chodesh

The first silver lining of the moon is in the sky today. I have pulled a card for Rosh Chodesh, the Jewish festival of the new moon with the question what I can renew in the coming cycle of the moon. I was horrified seeing my card (I am ashamed to admit I even trembled), there is a dead man on it.

It is the Death from the Tarot of Jane Austen that I pulled. Pictured is Henry Dashwood, who dies in the beginning of Sense and Sensibility. His death changes the lives of his wife and daughters irreversible. They must move houses and must leave al what is familiar to them. Henry Dashwoods death sets the book in motion.

Before I pulled the card I sat at the bedside of my daughter who was having a hard time. She will go to the secondary school next year (11 years old, 12 in october). She loves it, but finds it scary too. That is what this card is about, about ending and beginning. In three weeks  she leaves the elementary school and after the summer vacation she’ll go to her new school. This moon cycle marks the end of an area -7 years elementary school - and is the start of the beginning of a new one, for her, but also for us as parents and for me as a mom.
