new moon

Rosh Chodesh, Tammuz

Today it is Rosh Chodesh, the Jewish festival of the new moon. The moon is called Sjechina, and is a token of Gods presence in the world. The Moon renews itself each month, and brings into mind that God is able to renew himself, and that we who are created in his image, can renew ourselves as well.

The Jewish name of the month is Tammuz. The theme of this hottest month of the year is the fixing of seeing. The challenge is to see things as they really are, not as projections of ourselves or wishes.

I asked the question what I can renew this month and have received the Queen of Cups from the Tarot of Jane Austen as an answer. Pictured is Jane Bennett from Pride and Prejudice.

Jane is a kind and loving person and her emotions run deep. On the card she is shown after having suffered a heartbreak. She is very sad, but sits composed at the window. What I can renew this month is making contact with myself as a loving person, and I need to be on the look-out not to be ruled by my emotions.

I was planning on making a spread about the Queen of Cups and the summer this month, because the Cups belong to summer in the Golden Dawn system. My altar downstairs is full of shells, very Queen of Cup-like.
