new moon

Rosh Chodesh, Elul

Today it is Rosh Chodesh, the Jewish festival of the new moon. The moon, Gods presence in the world called the Sjechina, waxes and wanes and waxes again. It shows us Gods renewal which reminds us that we too can renew ourselves.
My card for the upcoming moon month is the Hierophant. I like the picture of the card in the Jane Austen Tarot, the deck I used for this reading. The hats are funny and in a way they have their own spiritual value. The flowers and feathers on the hats are directed to heaven.

Depicted is Mr. Collins, a clergyman.

This is the month I start teaching classes again. The Hierophant is a teacher. It is in that area that I can renew something of myself.

This moon month is the Jewish month Elul. Historically Moses climbed Mount Sinai in this month to ask for forgiveness for the sin of the Golden Calf. That is why working on forgiveness is a theme of this month, involving letting go of hurts and anger. A difficult process! I try to keep all of this in mind.
