new moon

Rosh Chodesh

It is Rosh Chodesh, the Jewish Festival for the new moon, and want to pull a card for the following month. I’ve been to Amsterdam, saw a film with my daughter – that was way to scary – and now it is late already.

A few weeks ago the Jewish congregation here in Heerenveen, celebrated. They obtained a Torah scroll to read from in their services. We were there. The first person to bless the scroll was a girl of 13 years old. She sung her blessing with a clear, silver voice. It gave such a feminine feeling to the scroll. touch. It made me think of the Sjechina. I went straight from the service to the local bookstore to read cards in the afternoon. I was afraid that I’d cry at each story, I was so moved by it.
I’ll take this clear voice with me in my new moon celebration. I pull a card with the question: What can I renew this month?

The card that I’ve pulled is Four of Candlesticks from the Tarot of Jane Austen. Pictured are Elizabeth and Jane Bennet, Fitzwilliam Darcy, and Charles Bingley in their marriage outfit.

It is a happy card. Time to focus on accomplishments, and joyful family life, this month that is so full with holidays, and in which it is important to make our own lights. I end with a blessing.

“Blessed are You for the new moon
A new spark of light, a new begin.”
