On a Mourner

Nature, so far as in her lies,
Imitates God.
Alfred Lord Tennyson (1809-1892)
“On a Mourner”

I came to these lines by the poet Tennyson, by opening a book at random. The question for my card was why these words are important to me today, because I did not get that. It took me quite some time while to become aware of this importance. I pulled the King of Wands from the Victorian Romantic Tarot.

The attentive listening king reminded me of the lonely and mad King Saul listening to the David’s music played to entertain him harp. After a while I remembered how I enjoyed the scent of spring in the air today. It was just a whiff, not really spring yet, almost a lie, but it was there. It took me elsewhere, out of myself, out of my own little circle of myself worrying about all kind of things. This is what these lines hint at for me today – the importance of being carried away from myself towards nice and beautiful things.
