Saturday, Third Week of Lent, John 8:46-59, Keeping the Word of Jesus

In the passage I have read today (John 8:46-59) the dispute between Jesus and the people who challenge him is still going on. The challengers accuse Jesus of having a demon. They do this because Jesus tells them that if a person keeps the word of Jesus (or God), he will never see death. This is sounding really odd to his challengers, because  Abraham and the prophets lived according Gods word and they have died. The challengers took their chance to respond sharply to Jesus his enigmatic words, saying “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’ Are you greater than our father, Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?” They judge Jesus as wrong here, glorifying himself, mad really, and this time they took up stones to throw at him. But Jesus escaped.
After having read this passage I wondered what Jesus meant by saying that if a person keeps the word of Jesus, he will never see death. I have asked the tarot: “What does it mean (for me) to keep the word of Jesus?”  A very interesting second question would be what it means to never see death, but I let that one rest.

It seems as if I read with a limited range of cards (but I really don’t) for  I have pulled this card earlier this Lent, just as many other cards. This one was in the first week, to almost the same question. It shows again the consistency of the tarot. The card that I have pulled is Queen of Cups from the Fantastic Menagerie Tarot made by baba_studio. Depicted on the card is a woman-swan, sought after by many suitors (she holds a love letter in her hand), she has deep feelings, she loves music (there is an instrument on the card) and she enjoys creative work.

The Queen of Cups is a deeply emotional woman. She has deep feelings of her own and emphasizes with the emotions of others. She has visions and takes her dreams seriously. What does this this queen mean to me for keeping the word of Jesus? It means that it is important for me to take seriously what I feel. It is also important that I am happy about how I look and about who I am (the pretty clothed swan), that I am aware that I am being adored by my husband (he’ll laugh) and that I enjoy what I do (again the swan). In feeling these things I keep the word of Jesus, am I true to him.
